mission
Body Snack ™️ is the conceptual framework and brand of Pilates teacher Caitlin Cook. Caitlin’s teaching style is informed by 28 years as a certified Pilates teacher. She is also certified in Zero Balancing. Caitlin’s approach to Pilates has been shaped by her training as a professional modern dancer and choreographer in New York City. Her practice has been informed by collaborations and learning experiences with bodywork professionals from around the world. She offers the ‘Body Snack Class’ as a means of unifying and mixing her knowledge into movement practices that are regenerative, aligning, fun, and exploratory.
"My goal as a movement teacher/body worker is to encourage people to understand and enjoy living in their own unique body. I believe Pilates and Zero Balancing both promote body consciousness, efficiency and ease of movement. The principles of both protocols convey meaning in movement practices and the client should come away with a sense of what healthy alignment is for them." - Caitlin Cook |
bioCaitlin Cook graduated with a BFA in Dance Performance from SUNY Purchase College in 1992. It was in her freshman year at the age of 18 that Caitlin began her Pilates training. In 1993 she moved to the Bay Area to continue dancing. It was during this time in San Francisco that Caitlin met then choreographer Ellie Herman who suggested Caitlin get certified to teach the Pilates Method. Caitlin was certified in 1994 by the amazing Madeline Black(A Body of Work, San Francisco, Eve Gentry lineage). When she moved to NYC in 1996, Caitlin continued to dance and to teach Pilates. She was fortunate to work alongside some amazing Pilates teachers. Phoebe Higgins, Peter Roel, Susan Moran were her first mentors at Howard Sichel Chiropractic in mid town Manhattan. Then she moved to re:AB when Power Pilates began and was taken under the wings of Brooke Siler and Alycea Ungaro. From there Caitlin moved to live in Park Slope, Brooklyn where she had the pleasure of working at Body Tonic Pilates Gymnasium with Jennifer Deluca. As her teaching style further developed, she had the honor of creating, with Jen, a comprehensive certification program that addressed both the Eve Gentry and the Romana Kryzanowska Pilates teaching styles. She worked at Body Tonic for 8 years until she moved to Martha’s Vineyard in 2008. On the Vineyard she has taught tailored private in home sessions, and has enjoyed teaching at both Vineyard Pilates, alongside Stephan Knight and Evolve with Laura Alexander. In addition Caitlin has had the honor of teaching ballet, contemporary and acrobatic dance at The Yard, Rise VPA and Spindrift Studio. In November of 2020, after many years of study, Caitlin became a certified Zero Balancer!
